THIS WAS ONE OF THE FIRST HINTS AS TO WHAT WOULD TRANSPIRE TODAY. THESE ARE THE GIANTS. NOTE THAT
THERE IS ONE SOLITARY TREE ON THE MOUNTAIN TOP. KEEP IN MIND THAT THESE TREES, BECAUSE OF THE
RELATIVELY LARGE SIZE, MAKE THE TRUE DISTANCE FROM THE CAMERA APPEAR TO BE CLOSER THAN THEY ARE.

MORE OF THE GIAN REDWOODS FROM THE OUTSIDE. SOON, I WOULD BE RIDING THE AVENUE OF GIANTS.

AND THESE WERE YOUNGER ONES, PROBABLY ONLY 1,000 YEARS OLD OR SO. RELATIVE WHIPPERSNAPPERS, IN
TREE YEARS.

SUDDENLY PLUNGED INTO A TWILIGHT. THE REDWOODS EFFECTIVELY SHIELD EVERYTHING FROM DIRECT SUN
LIGHT. kEEP IN MIND THAT A TWO LANE ROAD IS ONLY 22' WIDE IN THIS AREA. THAT WILL GIVE THESE TREES
SOME SCALE.

FOREVER THEY STAND
SHIELDING THE MOUNTAIN SIDES
AND MAKING US SMALL

HERE IS A GOOD WAY TO SEE JUST HOW BIG THESE THINGS ARE. NOTE THE CAR ON THE LEFT OF THE PHOTO AND
THE WOMAN IN THE CENTER. HUGE, AREN'T THEY?

I NOTICED A SIGN ON THE SIDE OF THE "AVENUE OF GIANTS" SO I FOLLOWED THE SIGNS TO THIS PLACE. AFTER PAYING A $3.00 COVER CHARGE, I GOT TO DRIVE THROUGH A REDWOOD. THIS THING IS STILL A VERY HEALTHY TREE AND IT IS, WELL, TO WEAR OUT A WORD, HUGE. THIS STAND OF REDWOODS IS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY.
THESE TREES ARE STILL PROTECTED BY LAW, HOWEVER. THE SLOT ON THE THE TREE IS ONE THAT WAS CUT THROUGH IT IN THE 20'S OR 30'S. IF THIS WERE DONE TODAY, THERE WOULD BE HELL TO PAY.

HERE IS ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE OF THE SAME "CHANDELIER TREE" AS SHOWN PREVIOUSLY.

OH GOSH, DEAR, LOOK AT ALL THE CRAP WE CAN BUY. THIS CRAP IS EVEN BETTER THAN THE CRAP WE SAW AT THE MYSTERY HILL WE PASSED DOWN THE ROAD.

CAN YOU BELIEVE HOW MUCH CRAP CAN BE PUT INTO A SHED BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD? DISAPPOINTINGLY
THERE WERE NO REDWOOD TREE LIMB SLABS WITH THE LAST SUPPER DECOUPOGED TO THE ANGLED SLICE.

      Good Morning Mark,

It seems that your journey today made up for the "should have stayed in bed day". Your pictures look like a scene from a fairy tale. I think I would have been looking for the lions and tigers and bears. And to think that WE were back here at the Bologna Festival in Yale while you were in the enchanted forest! Stay safe...... karen

So cool! I am envious, a ll that I remember and more for the ride , riding through a tree! Makes me proud to be a tree hugger!!
Found Manzanita, it is in Oregon, North of Nehalem Bay and South of Hug Point... Whoo! Whoo! got to love the vision of that. It is due west of Portland. Before there; Arch Cape, 3 Arches Rocks and Cape Lookout are neat.
The INN at MANZANITA is 67 Laneda (503) 368-6754, not cheap but definitely a treat!
Wow its been 13 years since I was north of Coos Bay.
Cleanse your soul and drink from Mother Nature at her best,

Wow....this was not just Sherwood Forest....what an awesome experience. I am glad that you have the camera mirror that reminds you "...objects are bigger than they seem" ... very high tech, and I always like the reminders....

Oh my! These photos of the giant redwoods are astounding. We've been given sooooo much beauty! Isn't God awesome?

(Then we get hold of it and create gift shops! Sigh)
